To me a photograph that has strong composition exhibits emotion, intrigue, mystery, beautiful editing and a strong subject. When I look at this photo it gives me a sense of solitude even though he is not alone. The lighting and dark background. There is a lot of mystery there as well as a sense of solitude. The clouds parting shining light down brings hope to the traveler dispite the darkness ahead. I'm sure this can be interpreted different ways but that's what makes it a greatly composed photo. It draws you in with every element in it.
